HE WAS NEVER MINE

About this story

Synopsis

"You were never my wife. You were just... a placeholder until I got my real life back." Nathaniel Sterling said the words like they cost him nothing. Avery Monroe didn't flinch, she didn't cry, she didn't even beg. "Give me one night," she asked instead. "My first, and my last, as your wife." He agreed and morning, she signed the papers he'd already prepared and walked out of the Sterling mansion with nothing but her pride, and a secret she never got the chance to tell him. She was carrying his child. She lost more than her marriage that year. What came after nearly buried her, and then built someone unrecognizable in her place. Years later, Avery Monroe doesn't exist anymore. In her place stands a woman who shakes the design world, one who remembers nothing of the life before, and claws her way to an empire out of the ashes of a past she says she can't recall. Then Wyatt Kane walks into her life, and everything gets complicated. He's magnetic, protective, everything Nate never was. What she doesn't know is that he was sent to watch her, by the very family she should want nothing to do with. What he doesn't know is whether the woman he's falling for is telling him the truth at all. The closer they get, the harder it becomes to tell who's really playing who. Because falling for the one man tied to the family that broke her? That was never supposed to be part of the plan.
