Chapter 3 of 43His Defiant Mate: The Hidden Lycan Queen
Available on official platform
Damien Beaumont POV:
Sixty stories above the glittering glass towers of New Haven, the morning sun pierced the floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows of Beaumont Tower.
I stood at the edge of the glass, an untouched porcelain cup of black espresso cooling in my hand. Beneath the tailored fabric of my three-piece Tom Ford suit, the restless, ancient energy coursing through my veins burned like molten silver.
Behind me, the heavy obsidian double doors swung open with a muffled click.
Ethan Hayes, my Beta and executive right-hand, stepped into the sprawling office. He held an encrypted black tablet against his chest, his jaw tightly clenched.
"Alpha Beaumont," Ethan spoke, bowing his head precisely forty-five degrees. "The Sterling Pack has formally requested an emergency tribunal hearing under our territorial charter."
I didn't turn around. "Old Marcus Sterling is losing his composure. What happened to his precious heir?"
"Ryder was rushed to the Northgate Emergency Pavilion at midnight," Ethan reported, his voice measured yet tense. "Multiple compound fractures, spinal trauma, and most critically... complete spiritual severance from his inner wolf. The Pack Healer declared him permanently wolfless."
I paused, setting the porcelain cup on the marble console. I turned slowly, my golden irises gleaming coldly behind my wire-rimmed glasses.
"Wolfless? An Alpha-born scion doesn't simply lose his beast to physical trauma. Did they detect silver poisoning?"
"None, sir," Ethan replied, stepping forward to hand me the tablet. "No silver toxicity. No aconite traces. No ritual witch residue. The damage was inflicted entirely by targeted, physical strikes against his spiritual meridian nodes. The Sterling scouts reported only one assailant: a young female student with long dark hair."
The moment Ethan uttered those words, a violent, tectonic tremor tore through the center of my ribcage.
Deep within the abyss of my subconscious, the ancient Lycan beast—a colossal, blood-soaked sovereign that had slept in cold, unbroken silence for ten thousand years—suddenly slammed open its massive golden eyes.
It rose from the darkness, baring colossal fangs, and unleashed an earth-shattering roar that rattled the spiritual foundations of my mind.
FIND HER.
The command didn't belong to me. It came from the primordial beast whose bloodline crowned me king of this continent. The aura leaking from my skin turned the air in the penthouse suffocatingly dense, shattering the espresso cup into a thousand glittering shards.
I adjusted my glasses with two steady fingers, forcing the crushing Lycan dominance back behind the barrier of my human mind, though my knuckles turned bone-white against the edge of the obsidian desk.
"Physical strikes against spiritual meridians..." I murmured, staring down at the medical scans on the tablet screen. "That isn't modern combat. That technique was banned by the High Council centuries ago."
"Alpha?" Ethan asked, his voice trembling beneath the weight of my passive aura.
"Twenty-five years ago, an ancient technique surfaced during the Continental Purge," I said, my baritone dropping into a deadly whisper. "A strike that could permanently sever a wolf’s soul without shedding a drop of silver. The Kensington Nullifying Touch."
Ethan’s eyes widened in genuine disbelief. "The Kensington bloodline? But the main house vanished decades ago! There hasn't been an active Kensington on this continent since Huxley tore through the High Council!"
"Then a descendant has returned," I said, handing the tablet back. "Northgate University sits in the dead center of my personal sovereign territory. If an unregistered apex killer is walking among our freshmen, I want her name, her lineage, and her exact coordinates on my desk before noon."
Ethan bowed instantly, the weight of my Alpha Command pressing down on his spine. "Understood, Alpha. The shadow intelligence grid is already deploying."
I turned back to the panoramic window, staring across the skyline toward the distant spires of the university campus.
Inside my chest, the ancient Lycan paced relentlessly against the iron bars of my ribs, claws scraping against my soul.
SHE WALKS UPON OUR SOIL. CLAIM HER. MARK HER.
My blood burned hotter than fire. Who was this girl? And why did the mere whisper of her existence make my long-dead heart roar with such terrifying, possessive fury?
