The heavy banging echoed through the quiet penthouse. Kimberley frowned, stepped over to the entryway, and checked the high-definition security monitor on the wall.

It was not Atticus returning. It was Davis, the residential building's night security supervisor, holding a two-way radio with a sheen of sweat on his forehead.

Kimberley pressed the intercom button, keeping her tone cool.

"What is the matter, Mr. Davis?"

The supervisor wiped his brow, his voice crackling through the wall speaker.

"Mrs. Daniels, I am so sorry to bother you at this hour. Mr. Daniels just accelerated out of the underground garage so fast that he completely smashed the exit barrier gate. He told me to come up and inform you..."

Kimberley's expression did not change in the slightest.

"That is his vehicle and his driving. Send the full invoice for the damages directly to Daniels Venture Capital's corporate accounting department. It has nothing to do with me."

She cut the connection before the man could respond, turning off the intercom screen and walking back inside. That would be the very last mess she ever cleaned up for Atticus Daniels.

The next morning, sharp sunlight sliced across the dark hardwood floors. Kimberley was already dressed in a tailored black trench coat, her dark hair pulled back into a sleek, tight ponytail that accentuated the sharp lines of her jaw.

At precisely ten o'clock, the electronic chime sounded at the door.

A pair of deep red stilettos stepped over the threshold. Chloe Hayes, her best friend, walked in, wearing a sharp crimson pantsuit, pulling off her oversized sunglasses with a grin.

"Look at you," Chloe said, dropping her purse onto the entryway table and wrapping Kimberley in a tight, fierce hug. "Manhattan's most expensive new bachelorette. You finally decided to walk out of this cage."

Kimberley hugged her back, a faint smile touching her lips.

"Correction. A soon-to-be penniless bachelorette."

Chloe pulled back, casting a mocking glance at the signed divorce papers lying on the living room table.

"Penniless? Only because Atticus is completely blind. Once you take back what is actually yours, that man will be on his knees on Wall Street begging for a second chance."

Chloe snapped her fingers toward the hallway, and two uniformed movers stepped inside, efficiently lifting Kimberley's single black suitcase and carrying it toward the private elevator.

Kimberley took her leather handbag from the counter, casting one final, indifferent glance over the lavish apartment before stepping out into the corridor.

Thirty minutes later, a black Maybach pulled up to the curb outside a high-security residential building in Chelsea.

Chloe unlocked the door to a spacious, sun-drenched loft and dropped a thick folder onto the kitchen island.

"Here is your new place. Top-tier security, completely private. And this is the initial PR draft for your industry return. We are looking at the Juilliard Alumni Gala next month."

Kimberley picked up the folder, flipping through the pages until her eyes rested on the performance lineup.

"You work fast," Kimberley said, pouring two mugs of black coffee at the counter. "But before we do any of that, there is one place I need to visit first."

Chloe took her mug, raising an eyebrow with a knowing look.

"The vault? You are finally getting Case's Star out of storage?"

Kimberley looked down at the dark surface of her coffee.

"It belonged to my mother. It has been sitting in the dark for far too long."

"Then let us go show these Manhattan frauds what a real prodigy looks like," Chloe said, tapping her mug against Kimberley's.

By two in the afternoon, the two women arrived at an unmarked private trust bank tucked away in the Financial District.

When the branch director saw the custom black metal card Kimberley handed him, his posture instantly shifted to absolute deference, and he personally escorted them down the VIP elevator.

The elevator descended to the third sub-basement. A massive blast door slid open after biometric iris and fingerprint scans, revealing rows of climate-controlled safe deposit boxes.

Kimberley walked to box JC-001, inserted a heavy bronze mechanical key, and turned it until the lock gave a deep mechanical click.

Inside lay a sleek, custom carbon-fiber violin case with zero branding on its surface.

She reached in, her fingertips brushing against the textured shell, her calloused fingers remembering the exact weight of the instrument inside.

As she lifted the case, the rapid, sharp click of high heels echoed down the corridor outside, accompanied by the familiar, impatient voice of a man.

Kimberley paused, turning her head toward the thick glass partition.

Walking briskly down the hall was Atticus, and clinging tightly to his arm was a masked, frail-looking Gladyce.
