Gideon's gray-blue eyes instantly frosted over at the arrogant shouting from the hallway. He turned on his heel and strode out of the trauma room, pulling the heavy double doors firmly shut behind him.

Gideon stepped into the corridor, his gaze sweeping coldly over the scene. Kavon Cochran stood there, flanked by two burly security guards, looking incredibly smug.

"Are you the doctor in charge?" Kavon barked, trying to peer past Gideon into the ward. "I'm the executive assistant to Clifton Pace. I'm here on his behalf to collect his wife. Step aside."

Gideon didn't move a muscle. He stood like an impenetrable fortress, his towering frame effortlessly dominating the space. "This is a restricted trauma ward," Gideon said, his low baritone slicing through Kavon's arrogance like a scalpel. "My patient is in no condition to be moved. You are trespassing."

"You clearly don't know who you're dealing with," Kavon sneered, taking an aggressive step forward. "The Pace family owns half the medical boards in this city. I can have your license revoked by morning if you don't hand her over right now."

A faint, dangerous smirk played at the corner of Gideon's mouth. The threat was laughable to a man whose family practically owned the hospital network, but he didn't bother explaining that to a lowly errand boy.

"Try it," Gideon replied softly, his aura radiating an absolute, terrifying authority that made Kavon involuntarily take a step back. Gideon didn't waste another breath. He gave a decisive, dismissive flick of his wrist toward the hospital's elite private security team stationed at the end of the hall.

Within seconds, two massive hospital guards closed in, seizing Kavon roughly by the arms.

"Hey! Take your hands off me! Mr. Pace will hear about this!" Kavon shouted, his smugness completely dissolving into indignant fury as he was physically dragged down the corridor.

Gideon watched them disappear around the corner, his expression perfectly calm. He smoothed his crisp white coat, turned on his heel, and walked back into the ward.

Silence returned to the room. The doors opened softly, and Gideon walked back in, adjusting his gold-rimmed glasses with long, elegant fingers. He didn't look like a man who had just violently ejected a billionaire's envoy. He looked perfectly calm.

"He won't be bothering you again," Gideon said smoothly, pulling a rolling stool over and sitting beside her bed. His long legs crossed comfortably.

Adaline took a slow, deep breath and propped herself up on the pillows. "Doctor Whitney, I have a request."

Gideon looked at her pale face. "Speak."

"I need you to lock down my medical records from tonight," Adaline said, biting her lower lip. "No one, especially not the Pace family or their legal team, can know that I almost lost this baby."

Gideon studied her determined expression. "Why? A threatened miscarriage requires absolute bed rest and zero external stress. Keeping it secret works entirely against your health and the safety of the fetus."

Adaline let out a hollow, self-deprecating laugh. Her dark eyes, usually so soft and accommodating, were now filled with a chilling, shattered clarity. "Because in this entire world, I am the only one who wants this baby to live. If they find out the pregnancy is unstable, they will use it to destroy me completely."

She looked down at her hands, her voice trembling slightly with a mix of lingering grief and newfound resolve. "My parents will always favor my sister. They didn't even want me to share the Vance family name. I bear my late grandmother's maiden name, Mcpherson, because she was the only person in that house who ever truly loved me. My husband just betrayed me in the most horrific way imaginable. And my sister... she always pretended to be so gentle and caring. She constantly called to ask about my health and my marriage, acting like my closest confidante. But after the phone call I just had, I finally realized she has been coveting my husband all along. She orchestrated my ruin while smiling to my face."

Adaline gently placed her hand over her lower abdomen. "Even if this baby doesn't belong to that scumbag of a husband, it is the only true family I have left. It is the only blood tie in this world that won't betray me. I have to protect it, no matter the cost."

Gideon looked at her stubborn, defiant posture. A faint image from seven months ago flashed behind his eyes. It was the dark bedroom of the Ritz-Carlton, where a drugged, trembling woman had bitten her lip until it bled, absolutely refusing to beg for mercy from the strangers outside her door. She possessed a fragile yet unbreakable core.

His thumb brushed lightly against the faint, thin surgical scar on his left inner forearm.

He stood up, walked over to the wall-mounted clinical terminal, and rapidly keyed in an administrative master override. His broad back completely shielded her from the harsh hospital lights.

"Your entire file is now classified under S-rank confidential privilege," Gideon said, turning his head slightly. "No one in this hospital or any networked health system can view it without my direct biometric authorization."

Adaline let out a long, quiet breath, feeling a massive weight lift off her chest. "Thank you, Doctor Whitney."

Gideon turned around, his gaze locking onto hers with an intensity that made the air in the room feel dense and incredibly intimate. He reached into the breast pocket of his crisp white coat, pulling out a plain, heavy-stock white business card. There was no corporate title or hospital logo on it, only a single, handwritten private phone number.

He stepped closer, leaning over the bed to place the card on her pillow, right beside her hand. The clean, intoxicating scent of cedar washed over her again, making her heart skip a strange beat.

"Remember the card," Gideon murmured, his low voice vibrating right next to her ear. "I don't give that number out for polite conversation. If you are in danger, use it."

Adaline's fingertips grazed the edge of the thick paper. The warmth from his proximity still lingered on her skin.

Suddenly, her smartphone on the bedside table lit up, vibrating violently against the wood. The caller ID flashed with the name Jacquelyn Vance.
