Chapter 3 of 69The Alpha Brothers' Shared Mate
Available on official platform
JOSLYN POV:
The heavy office doors clicked shut behind me, severing the view of those two monsters.
I didn't run. I didn't collapse against the corridor wall. I kept my chin high and my steps measured, letting the silence of the executive floor magnify the sharp, steady rhythm of my presence. The whispers in the open secretary pool died instantly as I passed. Their wide, terrified eyes flicked from my face down to my bare feet, but not a single person dared breathe a word.
I stepped into the private elevator, watching the reflective steel doors slide shut.
Alone at last, my chest heaved with one jagged breath. The agony of Ollie’s death was an open wound in my marrow, but the tears did not fall. I swallowed the burning bile in my throat and forced my hands to unclench. Grief would come later, when justice was done. Right now, grief was a luxury that would only make me weak.
I took the elevator down to the garage and slipped into the driver’s seat of my Maserati.
In the rearview mirror, my hair was slightly windblown, my eyes ringed with crimson heat. I reached into the glove compartment, pulled out a tube of matte oxblood lipstick, and painted my lips with deliberate, razor-sharp precision. The reflection looking back at me was no longer Brad Key’s obedient, housebroken pet.
She was a predator forged in betrayal.
I pressed the start button. The twin-turbo engine roared to life with a feral growl that vibrated straight through my ribs. I peeled out of the Key Corp underground lot, tires screeching against the polished concrete, and shot out into the city traffic.
I knew exactly where I was going.
I didn't turn toward our cold, empty penthouse, nor toward the quiet suburbs. I steered the car directly toward the industrial edge of the city, toward an exclusive enclave that regular society whispered about in fearful rumors: The Lycan's Den.
It was a realm outside Brad’s corporate jurisdiction—a high-stakes, gray-zone establishment where the old-money titans, underground power brokers, and the city's most ruthless elite gathered. Brad had spent years kissing rings just to secure a trial membership there, always talking about the elusive "inner circle" that ran it with an iron fist.
Tonight, I was stepping right into the lion’s den.
I pulled the Maserati directly onto the private curb in front of the massive obsidian doors. Two bouncers, both towering well over six-foot-five with shoulders like concrete pillars, stepped forward to intercept me, their gazes sharp and assessing.
Without a word, I pulled Brad’s black titanium card from my clutch and held it out between two manicured fingers.
The men looked at the unlimited corporate crest, exchanged a brief, unreadable glance, and pulled open the heavy brass-trimmed doors without uttering a single challenge.
The bass hit me first—a deep, physical thrum that vibrated straight through the floorboards and into my bones.
The atmosphere inside was thick, laced with aged whiskey, ambergris, and something intensely primal—a sharp, electric tension that made the fine hairs on my arms stand up. Low amber lighting cut through smoky haze. Men in bespoke tailored suits and women in dark couture lounged in private booths, radiating old, dangerous wealth.
It was unapologetic, cutthroat, and completely untamed.
I crossed the room like I owned every square foot of it. Heads turned as I passed—barefoot, clad in a sleek black dress that hugged every curve of my waist and hips, my expression devoid of fear.
I took an empty stool at the marble bar. The bartender, a slick young man with sharp reflexes named Marco White, looked at me with raised eyebrows.
"What can I get you, ma'am?"
I tossed the black card flat onto the polished bar top with a distinct clink.
"Bring out your rarest Macallan," I said, my voice smooth, cold, and carrying effortlessly over the low pulse of the music. "And keep the bottle right here. Don't worry about the balance. Brad Key is funding every drop tonight."
Marco White’s eyes widened slightly as he recognized the name on the account. He didn't ask questions. Within seconds, a heavy crystal tumbler of dark amber liquid was placed before me, followed by the bottle.
I lifted the glass and took a slow, deliberate sip. The peat and fire burned down my throat, sharpening every synapse in my brain with diamond clarity.
"Rough night?" Marco White murmured cautiously, pouring the next measure.
"A liberating one," I replied, tilting my head back slightly, letting a slow, dangerous smile touch my lips. "I just closed an old chapter and opened up my marriage."
A man two seats down—a wealthy trust-fund regular in an unbuttoned designer shirt—leaned over with an arrogant smirk, clearly looking to take advantage of an opportunity. "Did you say open marriage, sweetheart? That sounds like an open invitation."
He reached out to touch my bare shoulder.
I didn't flinch. I simply turned my eyes on him.
"Don't flatter yourself," I said with cutting disdain, brushing his hand away with the edge of my glass like he was a speck of dust. "I don't trade down to amateurs. My marriage is open, but only to the men who actually run this city. A boy like you wouldn't survive the first round."
The man went red with embarrassment, choked on his drink, and quickly cleared out.
Marco White let out a quiet whistle behind the bar, clearly impressed.
The moment the words left my mouth, however, the very air around the corner of the lounge grew heavy. The electric tension in the room snapped taut.
From the velvet-draped VIP shadows on the mezzanine above, I felt them.
Three pairs of eyes locked onto me like crosshairs.
Through the dim haze, I could see their silhouettes—monumental, commanding, radiating an oppressive, suffocating aura of pure dominance that made the rest of the club feel like background noise. They were watching me. Not like drunk men ogling a pretty woman at a bar, but like apex predators who had just caught the scent of an equal.
Tonight, it's still uncertain who the prey really is.
