Carleigh POV:
The engine purred like a sleeping beast. Jonah sat beside me with his eyes closed, the silver cross totem pendant resting against his broad chest rising and falling with measured breaths.
I looked down at my stained jumpsuit, smudges of grime and dried blood clinging to the fabric. "You plan on taking me to the High Council looking like an escaped convict?"
Jonah didn't open his eyes. "Do you think I care about aesthetics?"
"Fair enough," I retorted, leaning back into the leather. "It's your sterling reputation on the line, Mr. Billionaire Alpha, not mine."
In the front seat, Thomas Hayes, Jonah's Beta driver, stole a startled glance at me through the rearview mirror. No one spoke to Jonah Lynn with such casual disrespect and lived to tell the tale.
Within fifteen minutes, the vehicle pulled up before a towering Gothic fortress carved from black granite—the Elder Council Hall, the seat of ancient wolf pack law.
I stepped out into the biting wind, the thin fabric of my prison garb doing nothing to shield me from the cold. Before I could shiver, Jonah walked up beside me, his broad shoulders naturally cutting off the icy gusts.
The guards at the grand stone staircase snapped to attention when they saw Jonah, but the moment their eyes landed on me, their expressions soured into open disgust.
"Isn't that the wolfless Payne girl? The murderer?" one guard muttered under his breath.
Jonah halted.
Without turning his head, he released a microscopic fraction of his Alpha's Command. The air grew instantly heavy, crackling with raw, suffocating dominance.
Thud. The guard crashed to his knees, gasping for air as if invisible steel bands were crushing his lungs, blood trickling from his nose.
"Watch your tongue," Jonah said mildly, his voice cutting through the silence like a scalpel. He resumed walking without another glance.
I followed him up the steps, my eyes lingering on his broad back. Cold, ruthless, yet instinctively territorial. Fascinating.
Jonah pushed open the heavy oak doors of the inner sanctum. Around a massive circular table sat five senior elders, their faces carved with centuries of pack politics.
Elder Winston Lynn, the head of the council, stood up with a scowl. "Jonah! What is the meaning of this? Bringing a disgraced, wolfless criminal into the sacred chamber?"
Jonah didn't bother offering a verbal explanation. He tossed the blood-stained parchment onto the center of the table.
"Register it," Jonah commanded flatly. "She is my lawful mate and Luna."
Silence fell over the chamber like a funeral shroud.
"Absurd!" another elder shouted, slamming his fist onto the wood. "Her genetics are defective! She carries no wolf, and she stands accused of slaughtering Payne's heir! We will not validate this farce!"
Jonah placed both hands on the table, leaning forward. His golden eyes flared with a lethal, predatory glow that forced the air out of the elders' chests. "I am not asking for your permission, Winston. I am informing you of a fact."
The sheer weight of his aura bore down on the room, forcing the elders to bow their heads beneath the crushing authority of their supreme leader.
Elder Winston swallowed hard, trembling as he reached into his robes for the Great Seal of Silvercrest. He pressed the heavy gold stamp into the parchment.
A radiant shockwave of golden light erupted across the parchment, etching the bond permanently into the pack’s spiritual archive.
I snatched my copy off the table, folded it into quarters, and stuffed it into the pocket of my prison jumpsuit.
"Let's go, dear husband," I said, meeting Jonah’s gaze with a smirk. "We have a Mating Ceremony to crash."
