Cora POV:

The silence was broken by a roar of pure Alpha fury.

Corbett's power exploded from him, a physical storm that swept across the garden. Lower-ranking wolves flinched, instinctively bowing their heads in submission.

He stalked toward me, his gray eyes now blazing with molten gold. "You... dare..." he seethed, his voice a low, trembling growl.

I met his gaze, my face a mask of cold, broken indifference. A wild laugh bubbled up from my chest. "Dare? You've destroyed everything I am, Corbett Solomon. What is there left for me not to dare?"

The enforcers seized me, their fingers digging into my arms until I thought the bones would snap.

The burn of the silver was a dull throb now, nothing compared to the gaping wound in my soul.

Corbett took a deep, shuddering breath, visibly fighting the urge to tear me apart with his bare hands. He jabbed a finger toward Officer Sullivan. "Get her out of my sight! Take her to Silvergate now! No one sees her without my direct order!"

They started dragging me away.

I didn't fight. I just twisted my head, my eyes locked on Corbett's. I wanted to burn this image of him into my memory-the man who had promised me forever and then personally escorted me to hell. In his eyes, I saw his love for a ghost and his hatred for me, a living, breathing woman. They were two sides of the same terrible coin.

Just as they hauled me toward the garden gate, I gathered the last of my strength and screamed his name.

"Corbett Solomon!"

My voice was shrill, a banshee's cry filled with all the poison he had poured into me. He had already started to turn away, but my scream made his entire body go rigid. He didn't turn back.

"You listen to me!" I shrieked. "Everything you have done to me today, everything you've done to my family, all the pain and injustice you've piled on my soul!"

"I swear it! I swear on my shattered soul and the love you trampled under your feet!"

"One day, you will regret this! You will crawl on your knees and beg me for a forgiveness you will never, ever receive!"

"You will live in an agony of regret so deep it will make the silver shackles of Silvergate feel like a lover's caress! That is my curse on you!"

The words hung in the air, vibrating with power. His broad back trembled.

A sharp, violent pain, worse than the Rejection itself, lanced through my chest. The broken bond.

It wasn't completely severed. My raw, absolute hatred had just shot through it and stabbed him in the heart.

Corbett POV:

The sudden surge of her raw hatred hit me like a physical blow. I flinched, instinctively clapping a hand to my chest as the blood drained from my face. A sharp, agonizing phantom pain radiated through the frayed edges of our broken bond.

For a split second, my blinding rage cracked. A jolt of shock went through me as a fleeting image violently surfaced in my mind—a memory I had tried so desperately to suppress. It was Cora, years ago, long before Felicity's return. She was carefully tending to a wound on my arm. Her touch had been so incredibly gentle, her eyes looking up at me filled with nothing but pure, unadulterated adoration.

I shook my head violently, banishing the memory back into the dark. I couldn't afford this weakness. When my composure returned, I locked my jaw, making sure my eyes were colder than a winter grave.

Cora POV:

The enforcers gave me no more chances. They shoved me roughly into the back of a black, windowless transport van.

The door slammed shut with a deafening bang, plunging me into total darkness. I felt the vehicle lurch into motion, carrying me toward the legendary prison built to hold the worst monsters of our kind.

I curled up on the cold metal floor, the silver on my wrists a constant, searing fire.

I didn't cry. My tears had been burned away by the curse.

I closed my eyes, and the only thing I could see was the way he had instinctively clutched his chest before I was taken, his face contorted in a moment of shared agony.
