Chapter 3 of 58Divorcing The Biker: Her Spectacular Comeback
Available on official platform
Alaina's POV:
The world is a roaring in my ears. Brown's lie hangs in the air, a poisonous fog. He's not just discarding me; he's trying to erase my will, my voice, my very self.
I feel a delicate, cold hand on my arm. It's Mrs. Pennington. She has moved silently to my side, a viper in Chanel.
"Alaina, dear," she whispers, her voice a sickly sweet poison meant only for me. "Don't make this difficult. Just nod. For the family." Her manicured nails dig into my skin, a sharp, painful warning.
I look from her face, contorted with feigned concern, to Brown's,his expression seemed incredibly displeased with my silence. He needs me to save him from the consequences of his own cruelty.
Then I look at Kaley Sims, who is clutching Brown's arm, her belly pushed forward, the very picture of a damsel in distress who has won her prize.
And in that moment, the cold dread inside me crystallizes into something hard and sharp: rage. A pure, clean, beautiful rage.
I pull my arm from Mrs. Pennington's grasp. The movement is small, but it feels like breaking a chain that has been around my neck for years.
I take a single step forward, out of the shadows and into the unforgiving light of the stage.
I meet Miles Hayes's furious, questioning gaze. I give him the slightest of nods, not of agreement, but of acknowledgement. You were right to be angry.
Then, I turn my eyes to the man I married, the man who just tried to murder my soul in public. I let the silence stretch, savoring the panic that begins to dawn in his eyes as he realizes I am not playing his game.
I raise my chin. I take a slow, deliberate breath.
"No."
The word is not a shout. It's quiet, clear, and absolute. It cuts through the tension like a razor.
Brown flinches as if I'd slapped him. Mrs. Pennington lets out a strangled gasp.
"What my husband just said," I continue, my voice gaining strength with every word, "is a lie."
A shocked murmur sweeps through the crowd. I have the floor.
"I was not consulted. I did not agree. And I will not 'graciously step down' from a position I earned with my loyalty and my blood, sweat, and tears for this family and this club."
I point a trembling finger at Brown. "You stand there and talk about honor? What honor is there in ambushing your wife? What honor is there in bringing this... this mess..." I gesture towards Kaley, "... into our home, into this club, and expecting me to clean it up for you?"
My voice cracks, not with weakness, but with fury. "An Old Lady is not a temporary position. It is not a thing to be discarded when a newer model catches your eye."
I look directly at Mr. Pennington Sr. "I will not be a part of this farce. I will not be your family's scapegoat or their dirty little secret."
I turn back to Brown, my voice dropping to an icy whisper. "You want her? You can have her. But you don't get to have me too. Not as your wife, not as your Old Lady, and not as your goddamn Sweetbutt on the side."
I take a final, deep breath. "My request for separation stands. And I want nothing more to do with any of you."
The declaration hangs in the stunned silence. I have not only refused their plan; I have declared war.
Mrs. Pennington's face is a mask of pure hatred. She looks like she wants to physically attack me.
Brown looks utterly defeated, exposed as a liar and a coward in front of his entire world.
Kaley Sims's victim act falters; for a second, I see pure, unadulterated fury in her eyes before she quickly masks it with tears.
Miles Hayes lets out a low growl of approval. "Damn right."
I've thrown the grenade. Now I have to survive the explosion.
Before anyone can recover, two female voices cut through the tension, clear and strong. "She's right." "This is a disgrace." It's Vivian Carlisle and Eleanor Sinclair, two of the most respected women from allied families. My unexpected allies have just entered the battlefield.
