The Betrayed Prodigy's Spectacular Magical Comeback

Available on official platform

HOLLY HAYS POV:

I won.

Amidst the thunderous, tsunami-like roars of a hundred thousand spectators, I stood atop the floating arena of Wanling Magic Academy.

I had claimed the crown of the Tri-House Championship, winning the highest honor for the person I respected most and held dearest in my life-my mentor, Dean Alistair Sterling of Pyrespire House.

Standing beside the leaping cyan flames of the Vow Chalice, I didn't even pause to wipe away the blood, sweat, and scorch marks from my cheeks.

My heart burned with devotion as I looked at him. Draped in magnificent crimson-and-gold robes, Alistair stepped gracefully through the drifting motes of light, striding toward me.

His lips curled into that gentle, familiar smile I had known for five full years. His eyes brimmed with pride and tender affection.

"Congratulations, Holly Hays, my most brilliant disciple," Alistair murmured, his voice laced with velvet warmth, resonating softly through the fading cheers. "I have waited for this day for so long...Long enough that every step you took forward, every time you stumbled and rose again, every time you turned back to smile at me—I have turned them over and over in my mind, savoring each one… again and again."

He opened his arms wide—like a loving father ready to embrace his triumphant daughter.

Schrrk-!

The sickening, visceral sound of sharpened steel shredding through flesh and bone detonated deep within my chest!

There was no warm embrace. Instead, a pitch-black dagger, etched with twisted soul-devouring runes, tore through my back with ruthless precision, piercing clean through my heart!

Spurt-!

Mouthfuls of scalding blood, flecked with chunks of ruined organs, erupted from my lips, staining the stone platform crimson.

Like a ravenous parasite, the blade flooded my veins and bones with an icy curse the instant it struck.

It severed my mana conduits in a heartbeat, brutally binding and tearing away the brilliant, fully matured Stardust Core within me!

The agony drove my knees hard into the stone. Trembling, I forced my head up.

"Wh... why...?" I choked out, blood spilling over my lips as my trembling fingers clawed uselessly at the cold blade buried in my chest.

Alistair still stood half a pace before me, his pale, slender fingers wrapped firmly around the hilt.

The benevolent smile hadn't even faded from his face, yet his grey-blue eyes were completely hollow-as chillingly detached as a butcher watching a slaughtered lamb bleed out.

Behind him, my timid junior student, Beverly Wynn, stepped out from the shadows with delicate grace. In her hands, she carried a mithril casket etched with blood-sacrifice runes.

Her lips curled into an unmasked sneer of greed and malice. "Senior, don't blame the Dean. How could a mortal orphan like you ever deserve a flawless Stardust Core?

For five years, the Dean nurtured your talents and fed you the finest spirit herbs solely to cultivate that core to absolute perfection for me.

From the very beginning, you were nothing more than my living incubator."

An incubator.

Five years of pseudo-paternal affection, five years of grueling, ceaseless cultivation... had all been a calculated slaughter to butcher the goose for its golden egg!

Alistair smoothly withdrew the blade without a flicker of emotion. Pulling out a pristine white silk handkerchief, he wiped away the soiled blood and leaned down to whisper into my ear: "Rest easy, Holly. Your purpose has reached its end."

As Beverly reached out with trembling, eager hands to claw into my shattered chest, a memory flashed across my darkening consciousness-the drunken ramblings of Julian, that useless Dean of Abyssal House: "The moment you hand someone else your leash, you've already sold your life."

I thought of five years of illusions. I thought of my devotion, trampled into the mud.

You want my life to elevate a worthless parasite?!

-Go to hell!

I jerked my head upward and spat a mouthful of bloody phlegm straight into Beverly's delicate face. A feral, blood-drenched grin split my lips:

"You get... nothing!"

Instead of fighting the soul-devouring curse, I used my fractured consciousness to violently invert every ruptured mana channel in my body, flooding them in reverse to detonate the Stardust Core within me!

"Stop her! She's detonating her core-!" Alistair's poised, triumphant composure shattered into raw, gut-wrenching horror.

Too late.

BOOM-!

A blinding, supernova-white glare erupted from my chest.

An apocalyptic deluge of raw arcane fury instantly pulverized the barrier, the arena platform, Beverly's shrill screams, and Alistair's contorted, despairing face-grinding them all into ash!

Darkness swallowed me—not into the cold void of death, but into a roaring vortex of inverted celestial mana.

The shattered fragments of my Stardust Core burned with an impossible temporal radiance, tearing through the tapestry of space and time.

A sharp, violent gasp tore through my throat as my eyes snapped open.

My chest heaved in ragged spasms, air burning down my windpipe like molten glass. I doubled over, my fingers clawing desperately at the cold stone beneath me, expecting the wet warmth of my spilled blood and the shattered remnants of my detonated core.

There was no blood. There was no smoke.

I blinked rapidly against the dim lantern light. I wasn't on the floating arena platform. I was sitting on a wooden bench inside a small, damp antechamber carved with the ancient heraldry of Wanling Magic School.

Trembling, I lifted my hands to my face.

They were smooth, pale, and slender—devoid of the deep calluses and jagged spell-burns carved into my flesh by years of Alistair's brutal regimen. On the inside of my left wrist rested a faint, star-shaped birthmark.

My Stardust Core pulsed softly within my chest, whole, untainted, and brimming with unrefined celestial mana.

A sudden, sharp spike of vertigo struck my temple, memories aligning with terrifying clarity.

Eighteen years old. The mortal orphan arriving at the magical fortress for the first time. The Sorting Ceremony.

The realization hit me like a thunderclap. The core detonation hadn't extinguished my existence; it had hurled my consciousness back five years into the past, to the exact day my nightmare began.

A feral smile curved my lips in the shadows.

Alistair, Beverly..., I'm back.
